Veteran pharmacy professor G P Mohanta gets Acharya PC Ray Gold Medal Award

The HoD of the Department of Pharmacy Practice at the CL Baid Mehta College of Pharmacy in Chennai, Prof. Guruprasad Mohanta has been bestowed with the prestigious Acharya P C Ray Gold Medal Award 2023 instituted by the Bengal branch of the Indian Pharmaceutical Association (IPA).

The Bengal IPA instituted the award in 1962 and has been giving the same to eminent academicians for the last sixty years.

Prof Mohanta was formerly the HoD of the Department of Pharmacy at the Annamalai University in Chennai and currently he is working with CL Baid Mehtha Institute in Chennai. He also served as the National Technical Officer of the WHO Country Office for India.

The award was instituted by the Bengal IPA in memory of the great national figure Acharya PC Ray who was the pioneer designer of the pharmaceutical industry in India, sources from the IPA informed Pharmabiz.

According to sources, Prof. Mohanta has contributed to the profession of pharmacy in the form of writing text books and reference books for students and teachers. His mission is to educate the common man on appropriate use of medicine, accordingly authored the book, “What Everyone should Know about Medicine”, and gave radio talks on various subjects related to medicine and pharmacy.

Prof. Mohanta is also a regular contributor for Pharmabiz.

In February this year, Prof. Mohanta, the veteran academician, was awarded with the “Pharmacy Teacher Eminence Award 2023” by Tamil Nadu APTI. Further, he received the Best Researcher Award and IAPST Award.

In addition to his teaching and research activities, he is professionally very active and member of many associations such as IPA, APTI, IHPA and ISPOR. He is also advisor to many pharmacy professional associations.
