You’ve looked through our free materials and resources, and attended events, but you still have questions. Now what? There is one free resource you may have missed! Triage Cancer’s free Legal & Financial Navigation Program provides one-on-one assistance to individuals diagnosed with cancer, caregivers, and health care professionals, in the areas of health insurance, disability insurance, employment, finances, medical decision-making, estate planning, and more.

Our expert staff can help you access the tools you need to confidently take next steps and navigate through the legal, financial, and practical barriers that you may face.

How to Access the Legal & Financial Navigation Program

To speak with one of our experts, all you have to do is fill out a simple online form, available at TriageCancer.org/GetHelp. This resource is available in English and Spanish, and we can arrange to speak with individuals who speak other languages, or who require accessibility accommodations. You can watch this short animated video to learn more about the program.

Please note, the Legal & Financial Navigation Program does not provide legal advice or legal representation. But we do provide information about the laws that might apply to your situation and programs that you might qualify for, and help you understand the next steps that you can take.

How the Legal & Financial Navigation Program Helps

Here are some real-life examples of how the Legal & Financial Navigation Program helps people.

An individual with cancer was required to return to in-person work, because their employer didn’t want to let everyone work at home. We explained the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and how it gives employees access to reasonable accommodations, so the caller could approach their employer with confidence. The individual will now be able to work remotely for the foreseeable future.

A mother and daughter, who are caregivers for their husband/father, were extremely confused about interactions they had with Medicare. We were able to create a timeline and provide the caregivers with strategies for how to approach Medicare and request a special enrollment period to make changes to the patient's coverage, to limit out-of-pocket costs.

A health care provider reached out to us because an autistic and nonverbal individual diagnosed with cancer needed to consent to chemotherapy and the individual’s aunt, who had cared for him most of his life, did not have any legal documentation to demonstrate her ability to make medical decisions on his behalf. We explained advance directives and guardianships, as well as the differences between decision-making for medical purposes and financial purposes. We were also able to give the health care provider local resources she could pass along to the patient's aunt to access estate planning services in her area.

Testimonials

“This is very helpful, thank you so much. This conversation has made everything so clear.”

“Extraordinarily helpful. Really appreciate your input. Now I can go back and ask better questions.”
