How would you describe the culture of Regeneron?
The culture here is incredibly inclusive and collaborative. When you are a part of Regeneron there is a sense that this is our company, and we are building it together with the goal of helping patients. You really have an opportunity to create your own way here in an open environment where ideas are valued, and your voice is heard no matter what your title is.
How have you grown as a professional since joining Regeneron?
I feel my leadership qualities have grown tremendously since joining Regeneron. We offer a training program that gives managers the opportunity to connect with leaders throughout the company whom we would not interact with on a regular basis. In my experience, this program has increased my overall sense of team at the company and has introduced me to various leadership perspectives and solutions that I have brought back to my day-to-day work. This training helped me to empower my team to contribute to the decision-making process to achieve our goals. Overall, I feel that my career development as a leader was expedited through this powerful program, as well as the incredible colleagues I get to work with every day.
Collaboration is key to solving unsolvable problems at Regeneron. Can you think of a time when you and your team collaborated to solve a particularly daunting problem?
The biggest challenge that I have faced in my career was undoubtedly supporting our COVID antibody program during the height of the pandemic. Typical drug development can take 10 to 15 years. With all hands-on deck, our organization was able to get our COVID antibodies into the clinic, through data analysis and to multiple regulatory agencies for review in just over one year. This was unheard of prior, and we were faced with countless, seemingly impossible hurdles along the way. Nevertheless, the programming team (in collaboration with the many other teams across the company) was able to persevere and deliver our pieces of the puzzle at lightning speed. These deliveries ultimately allowed our antibodies to be delivered to patients in need across multiple countries. Our organization could not have achieved this without determination, the sharing of ideas across many functions and an overall focus on the greater good. I am very proud to have been a part of this extraordinary effort.
What do you find most unique about Regeneron?
One of the things I find most unique compared to other Pharma and BioPharma companies where I previously worked is that my voice matters. As data programmers, we are part of the large cross-functional program team. At other organizations, programmers are often just expected to sit at their computer and type away, and we don’t necessarily have a voice in the broader team setting or representation at key meetings. Here at Regeneron, we feel valued as a function and can be in the room where decisions are made and share our voice and perspectives on important topics.
What would you tell someone considering a career at Regeneron?
I would convey that Regeneron is a place where you can be your authentic self and really develop and expand your existing knowledge by taking on new challenges. While our work can be difficult at times, we face these challenges together as a team; and in the end we get to look at each other and celebrate that we achieved a great milestone together - for patients in need.
