Hired someone new and exciting? Promoted a rising star? Finally solved that hard-to-fill spot? Share the news with us, and we’ll share it with others. That’s right. Send us your changes, and we’ll find a home for them. Don’t be shy. Everyone wants to know who is coming and going.

And here is our regular feature in which we highlight a different person each week. This time around, we note that Generate Biomedicines hired Alexandra Snyder as chief medical officer. Previously, she was a principal at the Two River private equity firm and, before that, was head of translational oncology at Merck.

But all work and no play can make for a dull chief medical officer. So in her spare time, Snyder likes to play the cello, which she took up at when she was 5 years old. “I remember when I was little, the cello was extremely big. It fascinated me to have something you can put your arms around. You can really interact with it,” she tells us. Classically trained, Snyder played in orchestras and chamber groups, and did gigs through college – “everyone wants a cello at a wedding or funeral” – but had to put it aside during med school. She has since resumed her passion, though, and now plays with her two young daughters, who are budding cellists themselves. “One of the silver linings to Covid is that we got to play a lot together. They prefer pop and jazz but we have a fun little band. But for me, Bach suites just never get old.”
