PKU is a rare genetic disease that manifests at birth and is marked by an inability to break down phenylalanine (phe), an amino acid that is commonly found in many foods. There are only around 17,000 people living with PKU in the US, and 150,000 globally, but – despite that – treatments can command healthy sales.
